Biologist warns of premature aging of COVID-19 survivors

Professor of the School of Systems Biology at the University George Mason Ancha Baranova warned COVID survivors 19 people about premature aging. She told RIA Novosti about one of the consequences of the coronavirus.

According to her, premature aging of the body threatens even those who have had a mild infection. The corresponding results of a study by a group of doctors, she said, were published in November. Experts examined people who have had moderate to mild COVID-19.

“All these patients were outpatients. There were some hospitalizations, but it was not according to indications, but because at that moment they were all put in. Even in people who were very ill, 70 percent had pathology of some internal organs. Only the main pathology was not cardiac, but mainly fatty hepatosis (the liver suffers) and fatty degenerations of the tissue of the pancreas. Usually such diagnoses are made at the age of 60, and in the post-covid group – already at 40 “, the biologist explained.

Also, the professor came to the conclusion that the coronavirus “brings old age” and “takes resources.” In her opinion, it is necessary to conduct more such studies in order to study in detail all the consequences of the infection. Baranova suggested taking more tests from discharged coronavirus patients and studying them in detail.

Earlier, Turkish scientists named the reason for the unsuccessful fight against the pandemic. They found that asymptomatic carriers of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus have a higher viral load than those who show signs of COVID-19. In addition, low viral load was associated with the likelihood of a poor prognosis of the course of the disease.
