First recipients of coronavirus vaccine named in United States

The first recipients of the coronavirus vaccine in the United States should be healthcare workers and the elderly living in nursing homes. These categories of citizens were named by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices under the US Department of Health, reports RIA Novosti .

According to the chairman of the committee, Jose Romero, the drug must first be approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Previously US Secretary of Health and Human Services Alex Azar said that the first two vaccines against the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus will be available to Americans in the coming weeks. He noted that vaccinations could begin before Christmas.

The United States remains the leader in the number of people infected with coronavirus. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 13.6 million infected have been identified in the country, 270 thousand patients have died. In total, more than 63.6 million cases of the disease have been recorded in the world, 1.47 million people have died.
