Alleged home of Jesus’ family found in Nazareth

In Nazareth, Israel, archaeologists have found a house where, it is assumed, he spent his childhood Jesus Christ , living with Mary and Joseph. It is reported by the BBC.

Professor Ken Dark of the University of Reading spent 14 years studying the remains of a first century dwelling under a modern monastery. According to him, the assumption that this house belonged to the family of Jesus was first put forward in the 19th century, but this idea was rejected in the 1930s.

It is established that the ancient dwelling is located under the Byzantine church, which, in turn, is located under the modern monastery of the Nazareth sisters. “We know from written evidence that this church was built in the Byzantine period on the site of the house of Jesus and the dwelling preserved in his crypt,” the professor explained.

Dark identified the house as a structure from the first century AD, carved into the rocky hillside. According to the scientist, the builder of the dwelling was well versed in stone processing – this is what one would expect from an artisan, which was Joseph, the father of Jesus.

While all of these facts do not directly prove that the house really belonged to Christ and his family, Dark believes that his assumptions are as accurate as possible for modern science.
