Sakhalin Resident’s State Services Account Hacked by Fraudsters

Fraudsters have hacked the account of a 50-year-old resident of Sakhalin on the Public Service portal and wrongly registered him as a special military operation volunteer. The incident was reported by the regional department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which confirmed that the victim received a call from someone claiming to be from the “public services” and asking for his verification code from an SMS. The caller also attempted to extract information about the man’s savings.

Three days later, the victim logged into the “State Services” app only to find that he had been inaccurately recorded as a volunteer, alongside obscene statements. The applicant has since confirmed that he did not register for any volunteering work because he is disabled.

According to the Office of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, a criminal case has been initiated for unlawful access to computer information. The police have reminded the public to be cautious when receiving calls or messages that require verification codes or other sensitive information to be disclosed over the phone.
