Euler Finance Gets Money After Year’s Biggest Theft

The hacker behind the attack on Euler Finance protocol has returned 51,000 broadcasts (ETH) to the Defi lending protocol, as reported by blockchain company, Blocksec, Euler Labs’ collaborator. Additionally, the hacker has reportedly returned 7,737 ETH, bringing the total returned funds to approximately 58,737 ETH, worth around $102 million at the current exchange rate. This comes after an attack earlier this March, where the Euler Finance Defi platform lost roughly $200 million in cryptocurrency.

Initial findings showed that the hacker made away with $177.6 million, including DAI by $8.7 million, WBTC by $18.5 million, Steth by $116 million, and USDC by $33.6 million, however, it was later discovered that the amount stolen increased to $197 million. After the breach, the Euler (EUL) token rate plummeted by 46%, with its market capitalization decreasing from $98 million to $52 million, marking the biggest asset theft in 2021.

On March 13, the Euler Finance team initiated negotiations with the hacker, stating, “We understand that you are responsible for the attack on the Euler platform. We write to find out if you are ready to discuss the following following steps with us.”
