Toyota drivers’ data public for 11+ years

Toyota Auto Concert announced a data leak of more than 2 million customers due to error in the cloud service.

Toyota reported that customer data in Japan have been public since 2012 due to the “improper tuning of the cloud environment.” Due to the employee’s error, the cloud system was installed in the “public” mode instead of “private”.

The setting has led to the disclosure of information about the location of cars and identification numbers of devices in cars. The company claims that at the moment there is no evidence of abuse of leaked customer data.

The leak affected mainly customers of the T-Connect service. This service offers various functions, such as a voice assistant based on artificial intelligence, automatic connection to call centers, emergency support, car opening, navigation, car statistics and other parameters associated with the car.

Toyota said the company will create a system for constant monitoring of settings and carefully train employees with data processing rules.

It was previously reported that the Japanese manufacturer of Kojima’s interior details has recently been subjected to cyber attacks, which led to the stop of the entire Toyota Motor production line in Japan. Kojima is a key supplier of cup holders and USB-shares for Toyota cars. Kiberataka stopped the operation of 14 company factories and brought losses of $ 375 million
