Ogasta Mayor Declares Victory Over Blackbyte Hackers

After nearly two months since the Blackbyte cyber attack, which resulted in the shutdown of computer systems in the city of Ogasta, all systems are now restored and functioning normally. Fox54 reported that Mayor Garnett Johnson confirmed this news, stating that the investigation into the incident is still ongoing.[1]

Despite the restoration of operations in Ogasta, the residents of the city are still unaware of the extent to which their confidential information was compromised. It should be noted that some data, including a 10 GB sample, was leaked on the internet, provided by the hackers known as Blackbyte as evidence of their successful breach.[2]

Mayor Johnson has announced that the city will offer legal protection funds if the investigation reveals any compromise of citizens’ personal data. Currently, there is no information available regarding any data breaches.[1]

Throughout the month of May, there have been multiple reports of large-scale hacker attacks targeting various American cities, including Offer, Dallas, Lowell, and several other districts and small cities.[3]

Recently, Microsoft Corporation’s Threat Intelligence team conducted a study on the Blackbyte 2.0 extortion campaign and demonstrated the speed and destructive nature of cyber attacks carried out by the group.[4]
