China Accuses US of Seismic Station Attacks

Chinese State Media Warns of Alleged US Attacks on Seismic Data Measurement Station

The Chinese state media outlet Global Times has issued a warning regarding the alleged attacks by the United States on a seismic data measurement station. This information was initially raised by the publication on July 26, citing a statement from the Ugan emergency situations which claimed that foreign powers had targeted equipment used for earthquake monitoring. Social media posts in China on July 25 also mentioned this activity.

In its report, the Global Times quoted Mao Ninga, a representative of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who stated that China’s statements are objective and professional, simply stating the facts. He emphasized the difference between China’s approach and what he described as accusations and slander by the United States. Ninga accused the US government of engaging in malicious cyber operations worldwide, while accusing China of hacker attacks, demonstrating double standards and political manipulations.

In the latest report by the Global Times, an analysis of the attacks revealed the presence of a highly sophisticated malicious software with characteristics resembling those of American special services. This software was designed to steal data related to earthquake monitoring and had clear military intelligence objectives.

The report also cited Xiao Singuan, a member of China’s National Committee and the chief architect of the leading antivirus company Antiy Labs. Singuan stated that the comprehensive data collected by the sensors at the seismic data measurement station, particularly infrasonic and seismic data, hold significant intelligence value for assessing geological relief, analyzing weapons tests, and nuclear testing systems.

It appears that China is preparing to present its own account of the alleged US actions to the public, emphasizing its stance that the United States is the “empire of hackers.”
