GitHub Copilot Introduces Linking Function for Code Control

Github Copilot received an important update aimed at more flexible interaction with public repositories.

Earlier in 2022, Github presented the function links On the code that blocks the automatic proposals of code, which coincide with the public repository. Yesterday, the company announced the launch of closed beta testing of a new function, which offers the developers more control and choice.

The new function when turning on does not block the generated code that matches the public repositories, but displays it in the side panel, allowing the developer to decide what to do with it: use, reject, or instruct Copilot to rewrite it so that it does not match the original code. Subsequently, the function will be available in Copilot Chat.

Update will allow developers to study various libraries and send requests for code changes, instead of generating a code that already exists in the public domain.

A significant element of a new function is a quick search engine that provides the search for the corresponding code and its license. In the future, GitHub plans to add an option to sort the code found according to the license of the repository, the date of the Committee and other parameters. The new update is designed to make the coding process more flexible and intuitive, giving developers more control and opportunities for research.
