New Record: Hackers for two whole years had access to internal networks of News Corp media conclict

Last week, the American transnational media holding News Corp revealed very unexpected news in one of the letters addressed to his employees. In January, the corporation experts found that unknown hackers compromised the internal systems of the company as much as 2 years ago and all this time had access to them. It’s scary to think how much information about employees, various insider data, as well as information about the internal mechanisms of News Corp work was received by attackers for all this time.

The companies owned by News Corp include such influential American media as Down Jones, Wall Street Journal, Fox News, New York Post, Sun and Marketwatch.

”… from February 2020 to January 2022, the unauthorized party had access to certain business documents and emails from a limited number of employees’ accounts, some of these documents contained personal information,” News Corp said in its letter .

The company’s notification letter also mentioned that the data of employees compromised as a result of the attack could include the names, date of birth, social insurance numbers, driver’s numbers, passport numbers, information about the financial account, medical information and information about medical insurance.

The media conflict said that he had not yet received reports that the attackers have used the internal data of the company to perform fraud, theft of personal information of employees or committing other harmful actions. Since the hackers had access to these data for a long time, perhaps they no longer plan to make such attacks. Or maybe – just wait for a suitable case.

News Corp said that at the moment experts no longer have evidence of “continuing unauthorized access” to the internal systems of the corporation. Of course, it’s good that the hackers managed to “drive” the company’s networks, but it is unlikely that News Corp employees will soon let go of the idea that all their data are at someone’s disposal.
