Available release of the project DinoX 2.3.2, which develops a cross-platform fork of the open communication client Dino, using the XMPP protocol. Unlike the Psi, Gajim, Pidgin and MirandaNG applications, in DinoX all XEP specifications that are relevant for the modern user are available out of the box, without the need to change settings or install external plugins. DinoX also offers an interface that is more familiar to the mass user, reminiscent of most instant messengers of the last decade. The code is written in the Vala language (GTK interface) and distributed under the GPLv3 license.
DinoX features:
- Multi-user chats with support for private groups and public channels.
- Modern interface reminiscent of Telegram.
- Support for audio and video calls.
- Audio and video messages, recording and playback.
- Picture preview.
- Supports end-to-end encryption OTR/OMEMO and OpenPGP
- Works on Windows and Linux.
- Resource consumption comparable to the Psi client written in C++ and Qt. About 100-150 MB of RAM per client with three accounts and several chats.
- Easy to install and configure.
- Use of avatars.
- Manage the message archive.
- Mark the last received and read message in chats.
- Distribute messages by subscription (Publish-Subscribe).
- Notify others about the status of the message set to others by the user.
- Delayed delivery of messages.
- Bookmarks for various services and resources stored on the server.
- Notification of successful message delivery.
- Advanced means of searching for messages and filtering output in the correspondence history.
- Support for working in one interface with multiple accounts, for example, to separate work and personal correspondence.
- Working in offline mode with the actual sending of written messages and receiving messages accumulated on the server after a network connection appears.
It should be noted that for the most comfortable communication in the current conditions, it is recommended to create your own server based on, for example, snikket. It will provide not only privacy, but also more stable calls due to its own TURN server.
