KDE Development Weekly Update

The latest KDE development report has been released, providing insights into the upcoming changes for the KDE Plasma 6.8 branch set to be released on October 14.

Some key changes in the KDE Plasma 6.8 branch include:

  • In multi-monitor configurations, displays now show serial numbers of devices in addition to monitor names, highlighted in different colors. This feature helps users differentiate between connected monitors, especially when using multiple monitors from the same manufacturer. [View Image]
  • QML-based applications now utilize KDE’s color picker interface instead of Qt’s implementation to align with KDE’s color schemes.
  • Users can now place windows on top of other windows by dragging them with the mouse while holding down the Meta key.
  • A warning is now displayed when attempting to delete files from the desktop without the necessary access rights.
  • The virtual keyboard now has an expanded list of characters that can be entered while holding down keys.
  • The VPN connection dialog now features a more visible “Connect” button for easier access.

Furthermore, preparations have begun for a corrective release of KDE Plasma 6.7.1 following the release of KDE Plasma 6.7. This release includes fixes such as resolving KWin crashes on login when applications request unsupported color formats, disabling the input plugin for game controllers by default due to a race condition, and more.
