Alt Linux has published an update for its Linux distribution, called “Viola Workstation K 11.4,” which is designed for work in the office and at home. This update offers the KDE desktop environment and is prepared for x86_64 architecture, built on the 11th ALT platform. Users can download an installation ISO image (10.7 GB) and a separate Live assembly (6.4 GB).
Individuals, including individual entrepreneurs, can freely use the downloaded version. However, commercial and government organizations must purchase licenses or enter into written licensing agreements for permanent use in corporate infrastructure.
Some of the key changes in this update include:
- Updating the user experience to KDE Plasma 6.6, introducing support for text recognition on screenshots, a new on-screen keyboard, color correction for color vision disorders, and automatic screen brightness adjustment.
- Proposing a new packaging scheme for NVIDIA drivers, providing all necessary components, libraries, and utilities in a single set.
- Ensuring NVIDIA video cards work correctly on the current kernel without the need to update the NVIDIA kernel module after system updates.
- Excluding the userpasswd utility, with password changes now done in the configurator “System” – “System Settings” – “Users”.
- Separating Stapler into a separate component of the installer.
- Switching the “Web Terminal” session to use Wayland and Systemd, with added sound support.
- Replacing the p7zip archiver with 7-Zip.
