Wayland-Protocols 1.49 Released

Introduced release of the package wayland-protocols 1.49, containing a set of protocols and extensions that complement the basic Wayland protocol and provide the necessary capabilities for building composite servers and user environments.

In the new version:

  • Added experimental protocol xx-fractional-scale, which allows scaling the logical coordinate system with increased accuracy and resolution to individual pixels. This feature addresses the issue of limited resolution in the logical coordinate system, which is essential for proper implementation of fractional scaling.
  • Added linux-dmabuf support for systems with multiple GPUs, enabling clients to negotiate with the composite server to determine which GPU to use.
  • Added color-management-v1 protocol support for image metadata in BT.2100 format to ensure correct display of HDR content on composite servers.

All protocols undergo development, testing, and stabilization phases. Upon completion of the development stage (category “unstable“), the protocol is moved to the “staging” branch.
