OpenCloud 6.0 File Sharing Platform Launches

Published release of the OpenCloud 6.0 platform, which enables users to deploy a system for sharing files and collaborating on content on their server. Positioned as an open alternative to proprietary systems like Microsoft SharePoint, Google Drive, and Dropbox, OpenCloud is designed to comply with the current European Union regulation GDPR.

Based as a fork of the OCIS platform (ownCloud Infinite Scale), OpenCloud’s server part has been rewritten from PHP to Go, distinguishing it from the original code base of ownCloud and the subsequent NextCloud project. The focus of OpenCloud is on providing high-quality implementation of collaboration with files, while eliminating unnecessary functionality.

The server component, built in Go language, is distributed under the Apache 2.0 license and supports various programming interfaces such as WebDAV, gRPC, Microsoft’s RESTful Web API Graph, OCS, OCM 1.1, and OpenID Connect. Utilizing a microservices architecture, the server is scalable from Raspberry Pi installations to large multi-server setups.

The desktop client is developed in C++ with Qt and is released under the GPLv3 license. It can be built for Windows, macOS, and Linux, featuring a file synchronization function and the ability to mount shared storage as a virtual file system. The web interface, built using TypeScript and the Vue.js framework, is available under the AGPLv3 license. OpenCloud also offers mobile applications for
