Caliber 9 E-Book System Launch

The latest release of the Calibre 9 application is now available, offering users a comprehensive tool for managing their collection of e-books. Calibre automates the maintenance of e-books and provides various interfaces for navigating the library, reading books, converting formats, synchronizing with portable devices, and viewing news about new products on popular web resources. Additionally, the package includes a server for organizing network access to the home collection. The code for the project is written in Python and distributed under the GPLv3 license. Users can download the latest version of Calibre from the official website.

The new version of Calibre introduces several exciting features:

  • A new interface for navigating through a collection of books has been added, designed to resemble a bookcase with books arranged on shelves. Users can group works by author and series, and when hovering over the spine of a book, a tooltip with the cover image appears. The thickness of the spine is calculated based on the number of pages in the book. Users can customize the design of the bookshelf in the settings.
  • Integration of an AI assistant for discussing books is now available. Users can ask questions about a selected book and request recommendations for similar books. The AI assistant can be activated in the settings, where users can choose their preferred cloud AI provider or use locally installed models.
  • Support for accessing the AI assistant while reading a book has been added. Users can clarify unclear words, summarize or translate selected content, and get answers to arbitrary questions about specific parts of the text using the AI assistant.
