The Waterbury Police Department (Connecticut, USA) detained two criminals suspected of a series of theft of expensive cars. One of the stolen vehicles was a Ferrari from the 2023 production, worth $575,000, which was hijacked on September 16 in Greenwich.
Law enforcement officers were able to track the whereabouts of a stolen car thanks to the owner of Airpods left in the cabin. A special group combating auto thieves found the Ferrari at a gas station on Saut-Main Street. When attempting to detain the suspect, he managed to escape, leaving his iPhone in the vehicle. With the help of the recovered phone, the identity of the hijacker, 22-year-old Dion Schontten from Waterbury, was established.
A few days later, the police discovered another stolen car, an Acura from 2023, which was wanted in New York. 19-year-old Keon Webster and the already known suspect Dion Schontten were both detained on suspicion of involvement in the theft. The investigation revealed that both suspects took turns driving the stolen vehicle.
Schontten is facing second-time charges of car theft, while Webster is facing his seventh. Waterbury Police Chief Fernando Spanole stated, “Keon Webster is a familiar face to law enforcement. Despite his young age, he already has seven pending charges related to car theft and other serious offenses.”
The court set bail at $150,000 for Schontten and $300,000 for Webster. The police are continuing the investigation to determine if the detained cars are linked to other cases.
