AlmaLinux Now Offers Nvidia Driver Packages

The developers of Almalinux have announced the availability of NVIDIA drivers for Almalinux 9 and 10 branches. Along with the drivers, packages containing CUDA stack are also provided for installation. These drivers are compatible with systems using UEFI Secure Boot.

Official proprietary NVIDIA drivers cannot be loaded in UEFI Secure Boot mode due to lack of certification by the distribution’s digital signature. To overcome this limitation, open modules of the kernel are utilized in the NVIDIA drivers for GPUs starting from the Turing microarchitecture.

In response to this challenge, NVIDIA has introduced the NVIDIA-OPEN-KMOD package which includes modules certified by a digital signature. Additionally, the ALMALINUX-Release-NVIDIA-Driver package has been created, featuring a configuration of an external repository supported by NVIDIA. This repository provides CUDA drivers and proprietary components of the NVIDIA driver for user’s space, in accordance with licensing agreements.
