Google announced the release of Web-browser Chrome 139, as well as a stable release of the free project chromium, which serves as the basis of Chrome. Chrome browser differs from chromium with its use of Google logos, a system for sending notifications in case of collapse, modules for playing DRM-protected video content, an automatic update system, Sandbox insulation, and the inclusion of Google API keys and RLZ parameters during searches. For users who need more time to update, the Extended Stable branch is supported for up to 8 weeks. The next issue of Chrome 140 is scheduled for September 2.
The main changes in Chrome 139 include:
- The ability to use AI models to generate search recommendations in the address bar and on the new tab page. A new AI Mode button has been added to the address bar for users to access AI recommendations. This feature is currently only enabled for some users by default.
- Enhanced capabilities in centrally controlled systems to create custom quick search labels through the address bar. Administrators can now manage and resolve, remove, or disconnect user-specified labels in the new version.
- In the Android version, Google Safe Browsing now includes a check of the safety of downloaded APK packages in standard and extended protection modes. Files are scanned by Google servers, and if a file is deemed dangerous, a warning is displayed and access to the file is blocked. Users also have the option to access this blocking through the interface.
