Fedora Testing New Xlibre X-server Packages

Kevin Kofler of the Fedora project, a member of a working group focused on packaging KDE software, recently made an announcement regarding the Formation for Fedora packages with xlibre x server. This endeavor aims to actively develop and conduct a major cleanup of the X.org Server, known as the former X.org Server. In order to use Xlibre, it is necessary to have packages with compatible drivers Xorg-X11-DRV-*

These packages are being released in the fedora copr (Community Projects) repository, which allows community members to create their own RPM packages that do not conflict with the main Fedora repository. The packages are specifically being compiled for Fedora 42, which is currently in development alongside the upcoming releases of Fedora 43 and RAWHIDE branches (Fedora 44). The patches utilized for fedoras are found in standard packages with X.org Server (Xorg-X1-*) and are not yet integrated into Xlibre. Although there are currently no plans to include these packages in the main Fedora repository, this may change in the future if there is enough interest from the community.

To switch from X.org to Xlibre in Fedora, users simply need to activate the Kkofler/XLIBRE-XSERVER COPR repository and it will automatically take effect during the next update.
