Lanemu P2P VPN 0.12.3 Released

The latest release of Lanemu P2P VPN, version 0.12.3, has been introduced. This decentralized virtual private network operates on a Peer-to-Peer principle, connecting participants directly without the need for a central server. Users can discover each other through Bittorrent trackers, Bittorrent DHT, or other network participants via Peer Exchange. This free and open-source alternative to VPN Hamachi is written in Java and distributed under the GNU LGPL 3.0 license, with support for Windows, GNU/Linux, and FreeBSD platforms.

Key changes in this release include:

  • Experimental support for traffic through UDP, while maintaining the requirement for TCP for connection establishment, ping, and chat.
  • Inclusion of the Whatismyip service for obtaining external IP addresses over HTTPS.
  • Updates to application-supplied libraries such as Flatlaf, along with a link to the latest version of Openjdk.
  • Transition to the Bouncy Castle LTS library, providing hardware support for AES and SHA algorithms on Linux for X86_64 and ARM architectures.
  • Addition of a logo to the “ABOUT” tab and minor interface adjustments.
  • Correction of issues including NULLPOINTEREXCEPTION errors, failure to display the application window when loading the LibAppindicator64.so system tray library, and a problem causing Lanemu to stop searching for peers on the DHT network after a period.
  • Resolution of a bug where local.port could become 0 due to a race condition during the update of the current public IP address.
