Fedora Asahi Remix 40 Released for Apple ARM Chips

According to a report by Fedora Magazine, a new distribution called Fedora Asahi Remix 40 has been launched specifically for Mac computers with ARM chips developed by Apple. This remix is built on the Fedora Linux 40 package base and comes with the Calamares installer. This release follows the ASAHI project with Arch to Fedora, which aided Asahi Linux in focusing on re-engineering Mac hardware while maintaining open-source support. The development team is currently involved in the Fedora Asahi SIG.

Fedora Asahi Remix is compatible with Apple MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, Mac Mini, Mac Studio, and iMac with Apple Silicon chips. The default user environment is KDE Plasma 6, with an optional GNOME 46. Both editions utilize Wayland, with the XWAYLAND DDX server for launching X11 applications. The graphic drivers offer support for Opengl 4.6 and Opengl ES 3.2, officially certified by the Khronos consortium. While Apple M1 graphic drivers only implement the OPENGL 4.1 specification, the sound system of Apple computers is fully supported.
