Microsoft Releases Open Font Cascadia Code 2404.23

Microsoft introduced a new version of the open monoshyrin font Cascadia Code 2404.23, specifically optimized for use in terminal emulators and code editors. This font supports programmable ligatures, enabling the creation of new glyphs by combining existing characters. Similar glyphs are also supported in Visual Studio Code’s open editor, making code easier to read.

This marks the first update to the Cascadia Code project in the past two and a half years. The font’s initial components are distributed under the OFL 1.1 (Open Font License), allowing for unlimited modifications and commercial use for printing and on websites. The font files in Truetype (TTF) format can be downloaded from the repository.

The new version boasts the addition of 1140 new glyphs, including images used in pseudographics and ASCII-art, segmented numbers, elements for laying large text, and characters from obsolete systems. This brings the total number of glyphs to 9209. Additionally, font options “Cascadia Code NF” and “Cascadia Mono NF” are available, corresponding to Nerd Fonts.
