Microsoft Unveils Default DNS Tunity in WSL 2.2.1

Microsoft has recently released an update for the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL). The new version, 2.2.1, brings in default DNS tunneling to improve network compatibility.

Prior to this update, DNS-tunity was only available in experimental mode. This feature aims to address cases where WSL users face internet connection issues due to Windows hosts blocking DNS network packages because of firewall settings, VPNs, or other network configurations. By including DNS tunneling, WSL establishes a direct connection with Windows, bypassing the need to send network packages to the host. This enhances the stability and reliability of network operations in WSL.

In addition to DNS tunneling, Microsoft has also integrated Docker support with Linux built into WSL.

Other enhancements in the WSL 2.2.1 update include default cache restoration mode, fixes for performance issues leading to freezes in certain scenarios, an update to the Linux kernel to version 5.15 LTS, and various bug fixes aimed at resolving previously identified issues.
