New Assemblies of Raspberry Pi OS, Pi 5 Boosted to 3.14 GHz

Developers of the Raspberry Pi project have recently published updated dialog assemblies for the Raspberry Pi OS 2024-03-15 (Raspbian), which is based on the DBIAN 12 package base. The assemblies are designed for Raspberry Pi 4/5 boards, utilizing a composite manager by default called Wayfire based on the Wayland Protocol. For other boards, the X-server with the OpenBox window manager is used. To control the sound, the Pipewire multimedia server is utilized, with approximately 35 thousand packages available in the repositories.

Three different assemblies have been prepared for loading: an abbreviated version (404 MB) for server systems, a base desktop version (1.1 GB), and a complete version with an additional set of applications (2.8 GB) available for both 32- and 64-bit architectures. Additionally, an update has been released for the old edition of Raspberry Pi OS (Legacy), which is based on the Linux 6.1 core and the DEBIAN 11 package base.

Key changes in this updated version include:

  • Synchronization with the current package base Debian 12.
  • Updated Linux nucleus to version 6.6.20.
  • Updated firmware files for Raspberry Pi.
  • Changed logic in processing sound flows to prevent interruption of current reproduction when connecting/disconnecting sound devices.
  • Improved work with Rider Orca, updated to version 45.
  • Removed the obsolete Fbturbo Videraiter.
  • Added ability to configure screen resolution when working in Headless mode without connected displays.
  • Improved processing of power button presses on Raspberry Pi 5.
  • Various other enhancements and updates to improve user experience and system performance.
