Phosh 0.37 Release Overview

Release of Phosh 0.37, a screen shell for mobile devices based on GNOME technology and the GTK library, has been published. The environment was originally developed by Purism as an analogue of Gnome Shell for the Librem 5 smartphone. It is now one of the unofficial GNOME projects and is utilized in Postmarketos, Mobian, some Pine64 device firmware, and smartphone editorial offices. Phosh utilizes the composite server phoc, which operates on top of Wayland, along with its own screen keyboard. The projects are distributed under the GPL v3+ license.


In the new release, the following features have been included:

  • Added the option to select a wireless network through the quick settings dropdown panel.
  • Implemented the ability to add new quick settings using plugins.
  • Allowed the use of some internal components in plugins.
  • Enabled background images in asynchronous mode.
  • Added quick settings to prevent screen lock and sleep mode activation during specific activities.
  • Enhanced the PHOC composite server with expanded WLR_render_PASS and Wayland protocol FRACTIONAL-SCALE-V1 for fractional scaling.
  • Updated the Squeekboard screen keyboard to version 1.23.0.
  • Improved Phosh-Mobile-Settings configurator with enhancements in the list of selected applications, feedback adjustment with sound file selection, and application filters.
