Flathub introduces support for donations and paid applications

flathub , the web catalog and repository of self-sufficient packages in the format Flatpak, began testing the changes , prepared together with Codethink and aimed at providing the main developers and accompanying applications distributed through Flathub, opportunities for monetizing their developments. Developed opportunities can be evaluated on the test site beta.flathub.org .

of the already available for testing changes mentioned support for connecting to Flathub developers using the Github, Gitlab and Google accounts, as well as a donation mechanism using translations through the Stripe system. In addition to taking donations, work is underway to create infrastructure for the sale of packages and binding marks to proven applications.

The changes also notes the general modernization of the design of the FlatHub website and the processing of the server backend, carried out to ensure the installation of paid applications and verification of sources. Verification implies confirmation by the developers of their connection with the main projects by checking the possibility of accessing their repositories on GitHub or Gitlab,

It is understood that only participants in the main projects that have access to repositories will be able to place buttons for receiving donations and selling ready -made packages. Such a restriction will allow us to protect users from scammers and third parties who have nothing to do with development, but trying to cash in on selling assembly of popular open programs.
