Coffee tied up with low risk of uterine cancer

Chinese scientists have determined that coffee is associated with a low risk of developing endometrial cancer – mucous membranes of the uterus. This is reported in an article published in Journal of Obtetrics and Gynaecology Research.

Specialists held a metaanalysis of 24 scientific papers, which were devoted to identifying the connection between coffee eating and endometrial cancer. In total, 9833 cases of cancer were considered, and about 700 thousand women took part in the studies. 12 studies were cohort (groups of people are observed for some time) and another 12 – case-control. All reviewed scientific works are observational, that is, they have a smaller evidentiary force than a randomized controlled study.

The relative risk of developing cancer for people who often used coffee, compared to those who did not drink coffee, amounted to 0.71 (29 percent lower). For different regions, relative risks differed: in Europe 0.74, in the United States and Canada 0.71 and in Japan 0.4. Those who drink coffee with caffeine, risk decreased by 34 percent. At the same time, the risk did not affect the method of cooking coffee (using filtration or cooking).
