Tests of oxygen-hydrogen engine for “Angara-A5”

Wednesday, December 29, 2021, in the test complex of the Voronezh Center for Rocket Engineering (included in the integrated structure of the NGO Energomash NGO NGO Energomos, Roscosmos State Corporation) successfully conducted a firing test of oxygen-hydrogen rocket engine 0146D1, created at the enterprise for an accelerated block of KVTK rocket carrier of heavy class “Angara-A5”. Inclusion of the engine, work on specified modes, as well as stops passed in accordance with the laid test program.

Director KBCH Sergey Kovalev: “This year we conducted great work on the preparation of our production and test complexes within this topic. Due to the renewed cycle of the manufacture of liquid hydrogen on its own production base and the coherent actions of testing stands, our company successfully continues ground fire The development of an oxygen-hydrogen engine, which will ensure an increase in the energy characteristics of the Angara-A5 rocket, and can also be able to use in other promising projects. “
Chief designer KBCH Victor Gorokhov: “Compared with the previous version of the oxygen-hydrogen engine, which we manufactured and experienced on the project for an accelerated Block of the Angara-A5 missile, we forced a new copy by 20 percent. Therefore, the success of the past test confirmed the loyalty of all design and technological solutions that were laid at this stage of working out. “

Oxygen-hydrogen rocket engine RD-0146D1 Tract 9 tons is one of the versions of the RD-0146 engine line of the KBCH. These are the first rocket engines in Russia, made according to the degenerator scheme, as well as the world’s first liquid rocket engines, made according to an independent two-layer fuel component flow diagram with a sequential gas supply to the turbine. The specified circumstance made it possible to demonstrate the performance of the supply system with the optimal characteristics of the units.

Currently, three starts of the “Angara-A5” missile were held, in two of them the accelerated block “Breeze-M” was tested, the third was carried out with a new acceleration unit of the DM.
