EU will increase humanitarian assistance to Afghans

Financing Humanitarian Assistance to Afghans from the budget of the European Union (EU) will be increased. This was stated by the head of the European Commission (EC) Ursula Backdow Del Lyien on the G7 Summit. The words of the chairman of the EK are duplicated on its page on Twitter.

According to Ursula von der Lyien, instead of 50 million euros, the European Union will put 200 million euros in support of the people of Afghanistan. Help will be rendered to Afghans that are both in the territory and outside of their country. “It will be the contribution of Member States to help the people of Afghanistan,” added der Layen.

The fact that Brussels plans to expand the financing of humanitarian assistance to the Afghans, the chairman of the EC told on August 21. At the same time, she stated that the European Union freezes the economic support of Afghanistan in the amount of 1 billion euros. Tes Liaeine stressed that the transfer of money to the Afghan state would resume after the militants of the Taliban movement (a terrorist organization banned in Russia) will begin to “abide by human rights, minorities and women.”

On August 20, it became known that the UN establishes contacts with the leaders of the Taliban in order to resume the work of their humanitarian mission in Afghanistan. This process is complicated by the lack of a number of high-ranking members of the Taliban in the Afghan territory.

On August 19, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) announced the freezing of financial assistance to Afghanistan, which was supposed to be received by the budget of the republic as part of the fight against the economic crisis. The IMF was supposed to list the country of 370 million dollars on August 23, but after the capture of power Taliban, the Fund canceled its decision.

On August 15, the Taliban entered Kabul and declared the complete control over the territory of Afghanistan. President Ashraf Ghani fled to the UAE. Now the militants are negotiating with representatives of the former Afghan administration and form a new government of the country.
