A group of doctors under the leadership of the scientific director of Quest Diagnostics Lee UNhuna refuted the myth that the level of vitamin D in the body affects the likelihood of COVID-19 infection. This is stated in the article Jama Network Open magazine.

As a result of the study, the specialists found out that the level of vitamin D was below the norm of about 65 percent of the former carriers of the coronavirus, and about 29 percent of the COVID-19 had been observed a serious lack of vitamin. At the same time, the analysis showed that a very low level of vitamin in the body was characteristic of people who suffered from diabetes, obesity, hypertension, as well as for smokers and leading a sedentary lifestyle.

According to researchers, the results of observations are questioned by the theories that bind the different speed of the virus spread in different countries of the world and individual states with local differences in the typical concentration of vitamin D in the body of local residents.

Allergist-immunologist Vladimir Bolyibok said that to reduce the risks of the severe form of coronavirus, it is necessary to take ascorbic acid and vitamin D. He said that it is preferable to take 50 thousand units of vitamin D per month for a complete stomach. Bolibok advised every evening to take from six to 10 milligrams of melatonin, he will help immunity to fight viruses.
