Russia mulling to conduct an experiment with marking of imported alcohol

The Russian Ministry of Finance proposed to conduct an experiment on the marking of imported alcohol by federal special brands. Interfax reports this with reference to the press service of the department.

“We propose to launch an experiment on the marking of imported alcohol in Russia in Russia,” said State secretary-deputy head of the Ministry of Finance Alexei Sazanov during a meeting of the Board of the Federal Alcoholic Market Regulatory Service.

From April 1, an experiment on labeling drinking water, beer and low alcohol products began with the country, it should last until the end of the summer of 2022. Explaining the need for marking, in the Ministry of Industry, they said that such an experiment is important, because the specified sphere “is especially exposed to counterfeit and falsification.” The largest brewing companies were opposed to labeling – AB Inbev Efes, Baltika and Heineken. They warned that the marking could lead to price increases.

In early April, it became known that the new concept of state policy to reduce the scope of alcohol and the prevention of alcoholism is going to make a proposal to sell strong alcohol only in special stores. If the new anti-alcohol policy is accepted, strong alcoholic beverages will be threatened with the disappearance in ordinary stores.
