American veteran of World War II listed common goals of Russia and United States

In the United States, Russian diplomats and American officials laid wreaths to the “Spirit of Elbe” on Arlington Cemetery near Washington. The ceremony took place in memory of the meeting on the Elbe during World War II in 1945, RIA Novosti reports.

The event was made by the colonel of the US Army retired, one of the last countries of the living participants of those events of Frank Con. Veteran recalled that Moscow and Washington were once allies, and listed their joint goals. “And Russia, and the United States has so many common goals, to achieve which they must work together, including: climate change, trade, fighting COVID-19 and other problems,” stressed Con.

The Russian side at the ceremony was represented by a temporary attorney in Russia in Washington Sergey Koshelev. He noted that the meeting of Soviet and American troops in Germany on April 25, 1945 is a special date for bilateral relations and urged Russia and the US to protect the “Elbe spirit” together.

The significant meeting on the Elbe became the culmination of alliance between Moscow and Washington within the framework of the anti-Hitler coalition during the Second World War. In honor of the 50th anniversary of this event in the Arlington Cemetery in the United States in 1995, a memorial stove was installed with the image of Soviet and American military.
