Bolsonaro urged Brazilians “not to whine” amid record deaths from COVID-19

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro called on the citizens of the country to stop “whining” over the coronavirus. Reported by Reuters.

Brazilian COVID-19 deaths hit record highs this week. On Wednesday, 1,910 deaths were recorded, the highest ever recorded in a pandemic. On Thursday, their number dropped to 1,699, but more than 75,000 new cases of the virus were detected in the country.

Against the background of growing mortality, the head of state called on citizens to stop complaining. “How long are you going to sit at home and close everything? Nobody can stand it anymore. We feel sorry for the victims, but we need to do something about it,” Bolsonaro said.

Earlier, the Brazilian leader explained his reluctance to introduce epidemiological measures by the fact that “eternal life with coronavirus” awaits people. He called on regional politicians to abandon mandatory social distancing controls and instead “learn to live with the virus.” According to Bolsonaro, restrictions will get you nowhere.
