German government official accused of spying for Egypt

The German Prosecutor General’s Office accused an official from the Press and Information Department of the federal government of spying for the Egyptian authorities. This is stated in press release General Prosecutor’s Office.

Amin K., a native of Egypt and a citizen of the Federal Republic of Germany, has worked in the department of visits of this department since 1999. No later than 2010, he began to carry out the tasks of the Egyptian special services, which were given to him at the Egyptian embassy. Although he did not have access to classified documents, he used his ability as a government official to prepare reports for the Egyptian authorities.

It is reported that law enforcement officers searched his apartment in December last year, but he himself is still at large. Egyptian intelligence services on the territory of the FRG are mainly engaged in collecting data on the opponents of the Egyptian government living in the country: Coptic Christians or members of the Muslim Brotherhood organization. To obtain this information, the special services are recruiting Egyptians and immigrants from this country living in Germany.
