Germany will discuss creation of a fund in support of Nord Stream 2

The parliament of the German federal state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern will discuss on Thursday, January 7, the creation of a fund in support of the Nord Stream 2 project. This was reported by TASS citing the representative of the parliamentary press service Dirk Lange.

According to him, at least there will be a discussion of this issue. “The vote will be held if the government submits an application,” Lange added.

The goal of the MV Climate and Environment Foundation is to help German companies get around US sanctions. It is expected that project participants will interact with each other through this structure, which in theory will protect them from restrictive measures.

The gas pipeline from Russia to Germany was supposed to be completed at the end of 2019, but this was prevented by US sanctions. Due to the restrictions, the Swiss company Allseas withdrew from the project, providing the pipelayer. Russia had to look for another vessel, and the project was postponed indefinitely.
