House Republicans gather to censure Trump

Republicans gathered to submit to the House of Representatives a resolution censuring the current US President Donald Trump. This was stated by Congressman Tom Read in his article for The New York Times.

Reed said GOP members in the lower house of parliament will come up with the proposal on Tuesday to ensure that Trump is immediately held accountable for the storming of the Capitol last week.

It is noted that, from a practical point of view, censure has no serious consequences, but it can seriously damage Trump’s reputation. So, in the entire history of the United States, only two presidents have been officially censured – Andrew Jackson in 1834 and James Buchanan in 1860.

Earlier it became known that Trump, in a conversation with the leader of the Republicans in the House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy, partially admitted his guilt for the riots in Washington last week. According to Fox News, Trump said he had “some guilt” for what happened at the Capitol.
