The distribution kit Linux Mint 22.3 has been released, which is based on the Ubuntu 24.04 LTS package base. Linux Mint is fully compatible with Ubuntu but offers a different approach to organizing the user interface and default applications. The developers of Linux Mint provide a desktop environment that follows classic desktop organization, catering to users who prefer traditional methods over the GNOME 3 interface. Users can download DVD builds based on the MATE (3.1 GB), Cinnamon (3 GB), and Xfce (3 GB) shells. Linux Mint 22 is classified as a long-term support (LTS) release, with updates available until 2029.
Key changes in Linux Mint 22.3 include:
- The “System Reports” utility has been expanded and renamed to the “System Information” application. It now includes new sections with detailed information about connected USB devices, PCI components, GPU, and BIOS.
- A new application “System Administration” has been added, allowing users to manage settings for the administrator.
- Adwaita now uses its own set of icons called XSI (XApp Symbolic Icons) instead of symbolic icons.
- Improvements in compatibility with Wayland have been made in the window muffin manager.
