The Open Source Initiative (OSI), which reviews licenses for compliance with Open Source criteria, has published a ranking of the popularity of open source licenses. Ranking positions are calculated based on the number of page views for each license. The data is presented taking into account the elimination of bots. The MIT license leads by a wide margin, followed by the Apache 2.0, BSD3, BSD2, GPL 2, and GPL 3 licenses. Compared to statistics for 2024, the Apache 2.0 license moved the BSD3 license from second to third place, and the LGPLv3 and OFL-1.1 rose to eighth and ninth places, displacing the LGPLv2.1 license to tenth place.
