Published release of the display server Mir 2.25, the development of which continues by Canonical, despite the refusal to develop the Unity shell and the Ubuntu edition for smartphones. Mir remains in demand in Canonical projects and is now positioned as a solution for embedded devices and the Internet of Things (IoT). The project code is distributed under the GPLv2 license.
Mir provides a set of libraries for creating composite servers based on the Wayland protocol and includes typical functionality of window managers and display servers. The project is designed to work on various classes of devices, from conventional desktop systems to embedded devices and Internet of Things (IoT) systems. Mir-based projects include the Miracle composite manager, the Ubuntu Frame shell for Internet kiosks, and the Miriway user environment.
