Composite server hyprland and the accompanying packages such as Hyprland-Protocols and Hyprutils, were removed from the Debian Testing repository and will not be included in the stable release of Debian 13, which is in its final stage of preparation. The Debian Unstable branch has preserved the bags with hyprland.
The exclusion of Hyprland from the next stable release was requested by the person in charge due to the lagging version of the Debian package. The current version (0.49) of Hyprland significantly outpaces the 0.41.2 version supplied in the Debian package, making it impossible to provide support throughout the Debian 13 life cycle. The active development of the Hyprland project leads to new issues with changes that do not maintain reverse compatibility, complicating the maintenance of the old version within the Debian package.
The old version of Hyprland has a problem that causes the Debian testing to crash when changing the composite server Virtual terminal (TTY) or when switching between monitors. This issue has been elevated to a level that blocks the release of Debian 13, necessitating mandatory error correction. However, updating the version of Hyprland or its dependencies is not possible due to the frozen state of the Debian Testing repository before the release.
Hyprland’s composite server is designed for mosaic (tiling) window layouts, with support for classical arbitrary windows, window grouping in tab form, pseudo-mosaic mode, and full-screen window opening. It includes features such as dynamically created virtual desktops, various screen layout modes, global processing of hotkeys, gesture control on touchpads or touchscreens, and visually rich interfaces with gradients, blurring effects, animations, and shadows.
