The project Veracrypt 1.26.24 has officially released its latest version, continuing the development of TrueCrypt’s disk encryption capabilities. Veracrypt is known for its replacement of the RipemD-160 algorithm with Sha-512 and Sha-256, an increase in hashing iterations, simplification of assembly processes for Linux and MacOS, and the resolution of issues uncovered during TrueCrypt’s source code audit. Distributed under the Apache 2.0 license, Veracrypt maintains TrueCrypt’s features under the TrueCrypt License 3.0. Ready-made assemblies are available for Linux, FreeBSD, Windows, and MacOS.
The latest version of Veracrypt includes:
- Added support for packaging in Appimage format.
- Improved installation scripts for Linux.
- Default base mounting point set as /media/veracrypt if system lacks /media directory.
- Exclusion of PCSClite layer from RPM and DEB packets, now checked and dynamically loaded.
- Documentation in Chm format available in Russian and Chinese.
- Renamed “Dismount All” menu item to “Unmount All” with Alt+U shortcut.
- Whirlpool hash function now works on Big-Endian Baytes systems.
- Enabled protection against creating screenshots and screen captures on Windows platform.
