Mozilla Halts Firefox Services in China

In a recent development, Mozilla China has made an announcement regarding the reduction of services provided to users of Firefox in China. Effective July 27, registration for Chinese versions of Firefox Accounts (Accounts.firefox.com.cn) and Firefox Community has been halted. Additionally, users are no longer able to post messages and comments in the forum. Furthermore, starting from September 29, access to the Firefox.com.cn website, forum (mozilla.com.cn), home page (home.firefoxchina.cn), resources for downloading and updating the Firefox version for China, as well as services for account maintenance and synchronization of settings (Firefox Sync) will be discontinued.

Chinese users are now advised to download Firefox from the main Mozilla website accessible through this link: Download Firefox. For existing users of the Chinese version of Firefox Accounts, they have the option to export a backup of their data. Support and services for Chinese users will either be provided directly by Mozilla or by a newly appointed authorized partner.

Established in 2005, Mozilla China was set up to promote Firefox in China, manage the Firefox.com.cn website, and facilitate discussions in Chinese. The company developed customized Firefox builds specifically tailored for the Chinese market. The use of Mozilla trademarks was authorized through an agreement with the Mozilla Foundation. Earlier this year, Mozilla Foundation and Mozilla China came to a mutual agreement under which Mozilla China will no longer oversee the Firefox operations in mainland China.
