Nate Graham, a developer engaged in quality control in the KDE project, published the latest report on the development of KDE. The report highlights several recent changes in the code base for the upcoming release of KDE Plasma 6.5.
- In the configurator, support has been added for setting up rotating regulators on graphic tablets. These round regulators, commonly used in graphic editors, can now be used in KDE for various functions such as scaling the canvas, changing the brush size, scrolling content, or moving up and down. A screenshot of the feature can be viewed here.
- The QR code function now includes the ability to display connection parameters to the current wireless network, including the access password, eliminating the need to separately access the configurator to view the password.
- Location settings for determining sunrise and sunset times have been consolidated in the configurator on a dedicated page for day and night cycles. These cycles are utilized to automatically switch between light and dark desktop wallpapers, activate a night mode that reduces blue light intensity to alleviate eye strain and reduce factors contributing to insomnia. Additionally, these settings will soon be integrated into automatic design theme and color scheme changes.
- Screenshot recordings of individual windows now capture the window headline, frame, and shadow for more comprehensive documentation.
- Within the KDE Frameworks 6.17 branch, optimizations have been made to the number of events processors in kquickstyleitem and the synchronization of design theme states. These changes have resulted in a slight performance boost for all KDE applications using Qtquick, including the configurator, application manager, and screenshot creation program.
