DEEPIN 25 Launches with New Graphic Environment

The release of Deepin 25, the distribution developing its own desktop Deepin Desktop Environment (DDE) and about 40 user applications including Deepin Music player, DEEPIN MOVIE video player, and Deepin Store installation center, was announced. Originally founded by a group of developers from China, the project has become an international endeavor and now supports the Russian language. With a distribution repository that includes over 8,000 packages, all achievements are distributed under the GPLV3 license. The size of the bootable ISO-images is 6 GB, available for AMD64, ARM64, and LOONGARCH64.

The components of the desktop and applications are developed using languages C/C++ and go, with the graphic interface built using the QT library. A key feature of the DEPIN desktop is the panel that supports multiple operating modes, including classic mode with a clear separation of open windows and applications, and effective mode resembling unity. The program launch interface provides two modes for viewing selected applications and navigating the catalog of installed programs.

Among the changes in Deepin 25:

  • The configurator and notification output interface have been rewritten using QML.
  • The visual style of interface elements in DDE applications has been optimized and unified.
  • The configurator now has a new interface featuring a side panel with navigation elements and multi-level window effects settings, taskbar fixing support, sound channels merging, and fast operations for creating and restoring backup copies.
  • The Launcher launch interface now includes an application list mode in alphabetical order.
  • The file manager has expanded search capabilities, keyword highlighting, search results display, a button for creating a new tab, and support for hiding the upper menu.
  • Laptop users can now configure control gestures with three and four fingers on the touchpad.
  • The AI assistant capabilities have been enhanced with a separate indicator on the taskbar, automatic appearance when text is highlighted for translation, summarization, and explanation, and unified AI model settings.
