France banned treatment of LGBT people from their orientation

The National Assembly (Lower Chamber of Parliament) of France approved criminal penalties for people practicing therapy to change the orientation or gender identity of representatives of LGBT. About it reports Daily Mail.

The so-called conversion therapy, which, in terms of practitioners, helps cure people from unconventional sexual orientation will now fight imprisonment for up to two years and a fine of 30 thousand euros (2.6 million rubles). If the therapy is directed against minors, the punishment may increase to three years of imprisonment and a fine of 45 thousand euros (4 million rubles).

The law was supported by 142 members of the lower house of parliament, none of the deputies opposed. The new law not only appoints a criminal punishment for the practice of conversion therapy, but also allows its victims to submit civil claims against those who have been subjected to such treatment.

According to the initiator of the bill, deputy from the ruling party “Forward. Republic!” Lawrence Vissbrock, the law will be directed against everyone who “equates the person or sexual orientation to the disease.” The law will enter into force over the next 14 days after signing by the President of France by Emmanuel Macron.

In 2020, the representative office of the federal lands of Germany – Bundesrat – approved the law prohibiting reparative (conversion) therapy to change the homosexual orientation for heterosexuality. Conducting procedures for “correction” of homosexuality can now be imprisoned until the year.
