United States explained plans to withdraw troops from Afghanistan and Iraq

The USA spoke about their plans to withdraw troops from Afghanistan and Iraq, according to Al Jazeera.

Acting US Secretary of Defense Christopher Miller said that by January 15 will be reduced to 2.5 thousand people in both countries. It is noted that such an order was signed by the President Donald Trump as part of the regrouping of forces. Miller also highlighted Trump’s desire to bring operations in Afghanistan and Iraq to a successful and responsible conclusion.

Trump’s desire to reduce the number of troops in Afghanistan and Iraq was reported earlier. According to a number of media outlets, personnel reshuffles in Pentagon recently arranged by the head of state are connected with these plans. In particular, it became known earlier that the dismissed head of the military department Mark Esper finally spoke out against the complete withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan in a secret letter to the president.

In July, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced that the United States plans to completely withdraw its troops from Afghanistan by May 2021. He stressed that the American army has cut its military presence in the country by half.
