Japanese princess confirmed her desire to marry a commoner

The Japanese princess Mako has again postponed the wedding with a commoner, for which she will have to sacrifice the title. The Daily Mail reports.

Mako confirmed that she still wants to get married, but she is hindered by circumstances. At the same time, she called marriage a necessary choice, and her lover – irreplaceable. “We can rely on each other in happy times and in unhappy times, – said the princess. – But at the moment it is difficult to say anything concrete about our future plans.”

About Mako’s intention to marry his classmate Kei Komuro ) became known in May 2017. The engagement, scheduled for July of the same year, took place only in September. The first attempt failed because of the devastating flood that hit the Japanese island of Kyushu.

It was expected that the wedding will be played in November 2018, but this date also repeatedly postponed for various reasons. The Japanese press claimed that the delay was due to a financial conflict between Komuro’s mother and her ex her fiancé, whom she was rumored to owe several million yen.

In November 2019, Crown Prince Fumihito urged Komuro’s relatives to address issues that are preventing them from getting married and demanded that the princess publicly announce her marriage plans by February 2020. However, when the deadline approached, a new wedding date was never set due to the outbreak of the pandemic.

In August it was reported that Komuro is studying in New York and often communicates with Mako via video link. A source close to the couple states that they still plan to get married and maintain a relationship remotely.

Princess Mako, 28, is the eldest daughter of Fumihito, Prince Akishino and Kiko, Princess Akishino, and the eldest niece of Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako. They met Komuro in 2012 while studying at the International Christian University in Tokyo. Her fiancé is known to be interested in skiing, violin playing and cooking.
