Russia announced trials of Sputnik V and AstraZeneca vaccine in three countries

Clinical trials of a joint vaccine between the Gamaleya Center and AstraZeneca will begin in three countries shortly. They were announced by the head of Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) Kirill Dmitriev on the air of the Russia 24 TV channel, RIA Novosti .

“We are starting clinical trials in three countries literally in the near future,” he said.

December 21, the head of the Gamaleya Center announced about joint clinical trials of Sputnik V “and vaccines for the AstraZeneca coronavirus. He called the two technological platforms on which the drugs were created very similar. According to him, the combination of Sputnik V and AstraZeneca will create longer lasting protection against coronavirus.

There are several COVID-19 vaccines in the world today. Thus, two vaccines are registered in Russia: Sputnik V and EpiVacCorona. On December 5, Moscow started vaccination against coronavirus with Sputnik V. The USA and Great Britain also began to inoculate the population with the drug companies Pfizer / BioNTech. In addition, the drug developed by Moderna was approved in the country. British pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca has also announced the start of clinical trials for a combination of its AZD1222 vaccine.
