WHO named target of coronavirus

The goal of the coronavirus is to become endemic. It was named by the expert World Health Organization (WHO), Professor David Heymann, reports The Guardian .

Most likely, SARS-CoV-2 will become endemic, like four other human coronaviruses, the specialist predicted. “It will continue to mutate as it multiplies in human cells, especially in places with more intense spread,” explained David Heimann. In his opinion, humanity will learn to live with this virus. So, there are already tools to save lives, and good health of the population will contribute to this.

The same point of view is shared by the WHO representative Mark Ryan . “The likely scenario is that the virus becomes yet another endemic that will remain a threat of sorts, but a very low level threat within an effective global vaccination program,” he added. According to the specialist, even the existence of an effective drug against COVID-19 does not guarantee the eradication of the infection.

Earlier WHO expert, Professor Santiago Mas-Coma predicted a new pandemic for the world : A new coronavirus mutation, originally discovered in the UK, could trigger a third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to him, humanity continues to give way to the virus, and people have yet to see if vaccines can slow its spread.

As of December 30, there are more than 81.7 million people infected with coronavirus in the world, of which more than 1.78 million have died, another 46.2 million have recovered. Most of the infected are registered in the USA, India, Brazil, Russia and France.
